Musings: Today was a relatively easy day. Hurray! Hurray! A moderate distance. No major hills. A little up; a little down; a little flat; but no extremes. Imagine that on the Camino Del Norte! Not flat as a pancake, but maybe flat as a waffle? Something new for sure and everyone liked it! Especially after the hill we did yesterday.
And the scenery was lovely. The animals were cute. And the company—mostly Helen and Tony today (our Camino friends from upstate NY and the folks I’ve designated as Ben’s bonus NY parents)—was divine. For most of the day today, I walked alone. Carol was way ahead of me within the first couple of miles. But both times I stopped to eat—once for a second morning coffee and once for lunch—I, of course, quickly found Helen and Tony to my great delight! We are apparently on the same eating schedule (i.e., often)!
Here’s another funny coincidence. Without any coordination or pre-plannnng, Carol and I and Tony and Helen have chosen the exact same town and the exact same hotel or hostel or albergue at which to stay each night for about 5 nights running. And when I went to reception at our albergue last night to pick up a second key for our room, the manager accidentally gave me a key to Helen and Tony’s room instead! I’m pretty sure we will all just be bunking together soon! Ha! Further, when we gathered in the breakfast room this morning at our shared albergue, Carol asked Helen and Tony where they would be staying tonight. When they blurted out the name of our hotel again, we all laughed and high-fived. But the spell is broken for tomorrow. They have booked a different place. Alas, I think Carol and I will be lonesome without them next door!
Finally, we keep hearing from our Camino kids and other old Camino friends who are ahead of us now on the Way. I’m so delighted they are staying in touch while on their Caminos! Pictures are below.
Until tomorrow, here are the photos for today:
Can you see the windmills in the mist?
I love all the natural tunnels of trees on the Camino!
This Galician hórreo right beside the Csmino Del Norte had seen better days but somehow it fit with the view!
The earth has sunken many feet here on either side of the trail. I surmise from the thousands of souls who have walked this trail for hundreds and hundreds of years.
So this was a surprise to meet on the trail. I gave way of course. Here they are coming . . .
And here they are going . . . .

Sent to us tonight from our Camino kids — Nicole, Hilary, and Andrea, who are one day ahead of us in Baamonde! But not sure who took the photo! 🤷♀️
And here are our old Canadian Csmino friends, Michele and Rob! They are in Baamonde too with all the kids. Photo credit goes to Andrea (I think!).
Thank for the updates and the pictures.
Lovely, again and again 😎
